Bitter Sweet

These past few days have been a roller coaster to say the least: my grandma is on her death bed, literally struggling to take her last breaths, and while we're undoubtedly emotional over her, Baby J. has graced us with some pretty big kicks--big enough to be felt from the outside for the first time! Zach could feel his baby's movements just tonight, and ironically enough, tomorrow is the halfway mark in our pregnancy.

So, we're a bit turned upside down, but nonetheless grateful for all of the time we've had with Gram, as well as our healthy and apparently black belt-clad-kid (seriously, these kicks are going to knock me over!!). This all reminds me of the Live song, Lightning Crashes: "Lightning crashes and a new mother cries; lightning crashes and an old mother dies." A life for a life? Maybe this is the hormones typing?!

If Baby J. takes after Grandma Helen at all, I hope he/she inherits the strong work ethic and dedication to family that I'll always remember about Gram.
